What goes into selecting the right type of wood?
There are a number of factors that should be considered when selecting wood for a project. Three of the key factors are color, character, and cost. Wood colors vary significantly between species and sometimes even between different boards from the same species. The type of finish that will be used can also influence the color of wood types in different way. The character of wood is primary the result of the growth patterns that form the “grain”. Other factors like knots, holes, live edges, and spalting contribute to a wood’s character. Sustainability and the origins of the wood that I use for projects?
I believe that sustainability is important and donate a dollar of every item purchased to plant a tree. If you choose to plant additional trees with your order I will match your donation to double your impact.
Two of the most common woods types that I use in my projects, black walnut and hard maple, are responsibly sourced locally in Wisconsin. I also mill some of my lumber from local urban trees that have been cut down for construction or landscaping. Some of my lumber is reclaimed oak and pine from barns or local industrial discards. I also have access to numerous other wood types to meet your project needs.
How long does a project take to complete?
How far in advance of the Holidays should I place an order?
The Holidays are a very busy time for orders. I recommend placing orders for small projects 3-4 weeks in advance and medium projects 4-6 weeks in advance to ensure that you have it in hand as the perfect gift for that important person in your life.
